Overview
Miller’s Marine and Suwannee Houseboats are located on the beautiful and historic Suwannee River, where the Suwannee meets the Gulf of Mexico. Established, owned and operated by the Miller family since 1971 in the quaint village appropriately named, Suwannee. Suwannee is an easy drive from just about anywhere in Florida and south Georgia, an hour west of Gainesville and the University of Florida. The Miller’s offer a full service marina with covered wet and dry storage, transit boat slips, fueling facilities for even the larger vessels. Overnight accommodations include townhouse and cabin rentals, a campground, and of course, Suwannee Houseboat rentals. They even have Realtors onsite to assist those interested in waterfront properties, residential and commercial.
The folks at Miller’s Suwannee Houseboats are just country folk, and are truly pleased to see that you have decided to visit their piece of paradise. The friendly staff will greet you upon your arrival and are eager to meet your needs. During conversation you will pick up on the respect and admiration they have for this river, often referring to her as a “Graceful Lady” or a “Real Southern Belle”… Whatever one wishes to refer to her as, she is one of Florida’s most precious waterways and best kept secrets.
The Suwannee River is known worldwide, immortalized by the song writer Stephen Foster when he wrote “Way Down Upon the Suwannee River,” however, the Suwannee remains a mystery to many. That is why the Miller’s chose this river to call home.
Of the Suwannee’s 265 miles only about 70 miles are navigable by boat of any size. The lower reaches of the river, from the Gulf of Mexico to Fanning Springs are ideal houseboating territory. Picture yourself lazily cruising for hours aboard a houseboat without seeing another soul, basking in the sun with a light river or gulf breeze, watching for manatee, osprey, eagles and sturgeon. Visit areas like Manatee and Fanning Spring State Parks, historical sites such as “Yulee Bend,” the site of a scuttled confederate stern wheeler, or perhaps Florida’s underwater archeological site of the “City of Hawkinsville.” There are also Fowlers Bluff, with history all it’s own, boasting of hidden pirate treasures. If history or culture is not your bag, try casting line and fish the dark silky waters for bass, catfish, reds and trout. If you just aren’t a fisher person, jump in and enjoy the cooling spring fed river waters.
The Miller’s have been renting houseboats to hundreds of families just like yours for a long time, giving them the opportunity to experience for themselves the pleasures of a real river vacation on a houseboat. All of the houseboats are air conditioned, so Florida’s sun can shine on. The boats are easy to steer and operate even for the novice boater. The layout and décor will allow you to experience a “Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn” adventure, the difference being the Suwannee River.
